Vice President Education
Description
The VP Education is a senior position at the IHI Open School UBC Chapter. This position oversees all the educational initiatives, which includes both Scholarships and Curriculum Development. Therefore, the VP Education will lead two other students in the Chapter and along with 3 other Vice President's attend meetings with the President to provide weekly updates. This role requires someone who is very experienced with Healthcare/Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Education, as well as has great leadership, communication and management skills. Our Scholarships Program is a Program in collaboration with the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council where students are given Scholarship Funding to attend a healthcare improvement conference of their choice. The scholarships program occurs once a year and is run by the Scholarships Director. The Curriculum Development Initiative at IHI UBC is an initiative in conjunction with healthcare faculties where IHI UBC aims to provide insight, support, and resources to improve the standard and level of education around Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. The VP Education will lead both of these programs and attend meetings with both the Scholarship Director and Curriculum Development Director as well as the President.
Requirements and Desired Assets
- Good leadership skills: prior leadership experience preferred
Strong communication skills
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent understanding of healthcare and/or quality improvement and patient safety
- Preferably a senior student and in a current healthcare program (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, population health, etc.)
- Passionate about education and improving the current standard of educational knowledge at UBC
Commitment
- Complete the IHI Basic Certificate over the summer (18 hours)

Curriculum Development Director
Description
The Curriculum Development Director at IHI UBC is an important position that aims to improve, explore and expand the level of understanding, knowledge and engagement with quality improvement and patient safety education. At the IHI UBC we believe that the current culture and knowledge around QI/PS is scarce, and we want to change the way people approach, think and handle quality and safety in their workplace. As a Curriculum Development Director, an important job is to expand the educational development of the chapter, and along with ongoing initiatives, form relationships with other organization to help improve the education at UBC. Current jobs include creating a focus group to assess the standard of QI/PS curriculum in the Faculty of Medicine. More information can be found on the Development Curriculum tab at the top of our website. You will be required to provide weekly updates to the VP Education and provide thoughts on our current scholarship program.
Requirements and Desired Assets
- Excellent understanding of healthcare and/or quality improvement and patient safety

- Prior experience with curriculum change/development is desired

Events Director
Description
The Events Director at IHI UBC is an important position that runs all the IHI events. Events can vary and are completely up to the Events Directors (two total). For example, we have had speaker seminar series, workshop events, and networking events. Events Directors are given full responsibility to come up with events. As an Events Director it is very important to complete tasks, come up with good ideas and be organized! Events can be tricky to host, but with the right attitude and task completion it can be quite easy as well as fun to put on events. Events Directors will be in a team of two, and attend meetings with two other Workshop Directors and VP Events. The Team of five will meet once a week to provide weekly updates and carry out both Events and Workshops.
Requirements and Desired Assets
- Good understanding of healthcare and/or quality improvement and patient safety
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organizational management skills
- Be able to book venues, acquire catering and collaborate with other healthcare organizations for event carryout
- Creativity is a very important asset!
- Prior experience with event hosting/creation is preferred
- Passionate about student engagement
- Resiliency and a good attitude! It can be tedious at times to run events, so it is important to be creative and positive

Communications Director
Description
IHI Open School UBC is hiring two Communication Directors for the 2020-2021 year. Communications is a crucial aspect of what we do. Communication Directors run all of IHI's social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, MailChimp, Linkedin, Eventbrite, Weebly and make posters/material for widespread distribution). As a Communication Director, it is very important to explore multiple avenues of social media awareness and use the different platforms to communicate our initiatives. The Communication Directors will work VP Communications and meet weekly to discuss and carry out plans of communication. As there are two positions, one director will be responsible for half of the social media outlets, and the other director will be responsible for the other half.

- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational management skills
- Understanding of healthcare and/or quality improvement and patient safety
- Creativity and willingness to explore different options of communication
- Prior experience with communication/social media is preferred
- Passionate about student engagement

Mentorship Director
Description
The Mentorship Program at IHI Open School UBC is an amazing program that is set to launch September 2020. The program consists of two streams, the general stream, and the project stream. The general stream will feature a professional healthcare mentor, that will provide insight, knowledge and assistance to young aspiring students. Events will be held throughout the year for mentors and mentees to attend. The program stream is a little more engaging and features a Quality Improvement Project set for 4-8 Months, where students will work with a mentor on the project and provide feedback. In the near future we hope to include our mentorship program into the UBC Faculty of Medicine FLEX Curriculum as well as in the UBC Faculty of Nursing Practicums Curriculum. The Mentorship Director, along with another Mentorship Director and the VP Outreach and Partnerships will attend weekly meetings to discuss Mentorship Program Progress. They will also be responsible for Program Recruitment, Growth and Expansion. Duties will include attending meetings, creating ideas of expansion and implementing projects to further improve and model the ideal mentorship program.

Scholarships Director
Description
The Scholarships Program at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School UBC Chapter is one of the oldest and most sustained programs at the IHI UBC Chapter. In conjunction with the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council (BCPSQC), the IHI UBC Chapter receives $7,500 in funding to create a program along with the IHI UBCO and UNBC Chapters to allow students across British Columbia to attend Quality Improvement related conferences. Conferences are the based on the student's choice, and the scholarships fund provides reimbursement for air fees, hotel fees, registration fees and any other fees in order to attend the conference. The Scholarship Director will be an important part in maintaining this program, expanding it, and liaising with other healthcare organizations to carry it out.
